The Principal's View

Trial HSC examinations

Our Year 12 students have started their trial HSC examinations, and we are grateful to the East Cessnock Bowling Club for their continued partnership. The club generously provides us with an outstanding examination centre that meets all our students' needs.

The space at East Cessnock Bowling Club offers a quiet, air-conditioned environment with excellent lighting, ensuring that our students can focus on their exams. The discrete entry and exit points, dedicated toilets, and soundproofing further enhance the examination experience, making it an ideal setting for our students to perform at their best.

We truly appreciate the support of East Cessnock Bowling Club in contributing to the success and well-being of our Year 12 students during this important time.

Non-Compulsory Excursion Update

We are excited to introduce reward excursions to reinforce positive student behaviour and acknowledge the vast majority of our students who every day meet the requirements for non-compulsory excursions. Beginning this term, we will organise a reward excursion that offers an enjoyable and enriching experience for students who consistently uphold our school's standards. To ensure equitable access for all students, MVHS will partially subsidise the cost of these excursions.

To help students track their eligibility for non-compulsory excursions, we have developed a weekly email update. This email will provide detailed information about each student's current standing concerning uniform compliance, attendance, and behaviour.

A reminder of the requirements to attend:

●        Uniform Compliance: Students must consistently wear the full school uniform as outlined in our uniform policy. To be eligible for non-compulsory excursions, students should have no more than four uniform infringements in the five weeks leading up to the excursion and must be in full uniform on the day of the excursion.

●        Attendance: A minimum attendance rate of 85% is required, excluding explained absences and those supported by medical certificates. Partial absences, such as unjustified lateness or truancy, will also be considered.

●        Behaviour: Students must demonstrate behaviour consistent with the Department of Education Behaviour Code. More than two negative behaviour referrals, a suspension, or a formal caution within the five weeks preceding an excursion will affect a student's eligibility.

These measures aim to help our students develop a sense of responsibility and pride in representing our school. Students and their families have the right to appeal eligibility decisions related to uniform, attendance, or behaviour. Appeals should be directed to the student’s allocated deputy principal, using the provided appeal form that can be found in the policy on the website: https://mountview-h.schools.nsw.gov.au/about-our-school/non-compulsory-excursions-policy.html

We appreciate your ongoing support in encouraging our students to meet these standards and look forward to the positive impact that reward excursions will have on our school community.

Education Week

This year, we were particularly excited to see the emphasis on ‘Public Schooling’ as we celebrated Education Week. The theme for 2024 was ‘Proud to Belong’. The celebration provided our community with the opportunity to acknowledge the remarkable achievements of our students, our staff, our school programs, and our community members. Celebrating these accomplishments make us incredibly proud to be associated with Mount View High School, a brilliant example of public education.
