KuNarr (Support)

Upgrades

We are thrilled to share that the KuNarr Faculty is expanding! Two new classrooms are being added, complete with a convenient footpath leading directly to them. In front of these classrooms, astroturf will provide a vibrant, inviting space, seamlessly connecting to our newly resurfaced basketball court.

Additionally, our breakout areas are receiving a major upgrade. The natural grass is being replaced with durable astroturf, creating a functional and attractive outdoor area. To enhance this space further, shade sails will be installed, transforming it into a comfortable and versatile outdoor learning environment for our students.

Stay tuned for more updates as these exciting improvements take shape!

Farewells

Nic Tomlinson

We would like to take a moment to bid farewell to Nic Tomlinson, who has been a valued member of our KuNarr Faculty as the core classroom teacher for the Jilliby class over the past two years. After transitioning from the PDHPE faculty, Nic quickly became an integral part of our team, forging strong connections with both students and staff. His positivity and infectious laugh have brightened our school community.

As Nic embarks on a new chapter in Sydney to be closer to his son and pursue his passion for teaching, we want to express our heartfelt gratitude for his dedication and contributions during his time with us. We wish him all the best in his future endeavours!

Edie Rudd

It is with mixed emotions that we announce the departure of Edie Rudd, who has served as the core classroom teacher for the Olney class in 2024. After joining us from the CAPA faculty, Edie quickly became a positive force within the KuNarr Faculty, demonstrating a caring nature towards both staff and students. Her dedication to building strong relationships and enhancing our faculty structures has left a lasting impact.

Edie's passion for art has greatly enriched our community, and her insights have benefited us all. As she embarks on a new journey towards a differentiated schooling experience that aligns more closely with her goals and free-spirited nature, we want to extend our heartfelt gratitude for her contributions.

We wish Edie all the best in her future endeavours and know she will continue to shine in her next role.

Coralee Constable

We would also like to take a moment to recognise and bid farewell to Coralee Constable, who has served as the School Administrative Officer for the KuNarr Faculty since 2023. Coralee has been an invaluable member of our faculty, working closely with our Head Teacher and making significant contributions to our systems and structures.

Her ability to build meaningful connections with both staff and students has created a welcoming atmosphere, where she is greeted with smiles every morning. While we have all felt her absence on Fridays when she works in the main school office, it is with mixed emotions that we congratulate her on receiving a full-time position at Nulkaba Public School.

We are grateful for the impact Coralee has made during her time here and wish her all the best in her new role. She will be greatly missed!

Amelia Haynes-Digges

We are pleased to welcome Amelia to our team as the School Administrative Officer for the KuNarr Faculty. She has been diligently learning the various behind-the-scenes tasks that Coralee has handled over the past two years.

Zac Moore

Zac has played a significant role in the faculty this year, and we are fortunate to have him joining us as a classroom teacher for 2025. Mr Moore will be stepping into the substantial role left by Mr Tomlinson.

Alison Pollock

We are thrilled to welcome Alison to the KuNarr Faculty as a permanent teacher. Alison brings a wealth of knowledge gained from her experience in the Teaching and Learning Faculty since 2018.

Awaba

The Awaba class has challenged themselves to try a new sport and is showing great progress on the tennis courts, learning new skills and techniques. With each practice, their skills are noticeably improving. It's wonderful to watch their dedication and development in the sport.

Jilliby

Term 4 for our Jilliby students has been very busy as our Year 10 students, Holly, Sean and Kirsty transition into the senior class in 2025. They’ve been getting a taste of their new classroom and what it’s like to experience all the lurks and perks that go with their newfound status!

Students have also been preparing for life without Mr Tomlinson who will be relocating to Sydney after the school year to be closer to his 10-year-old son. Mr Tomlinson has spent the last two years as Jilliby Classroom Teacher.

Mambo

This term, our Year 11 students welcomed some new faces as several of our fantastic Year 10 students began their transition into the senior class. They have been a wonderful addition to our classroom dynamic, bringing fresh energy and enthusiasm as they look forward to 2025.

In English, our seniors have been deeply engaged in learning about the concept of belonging and what it means to be part of a community. Through a variety of texts and videos, students have explored key aspects of Australian history, reflecting on notions of identity, relationships, acceptance, and understanding. This exploration has allowed them to recognise and consider diverse experiences and perspectives.

Additionally, they have been working hard on a term project in Work and the Community, which has been displayed across four visual boards. This project has provided an opportunity for students to explore their individual interests, skills, and personal attributes, while also considering potential career paths and travel aspirations after school.

Olney

This term, students engaging in CAPA from 7-10 were invited on an excursion to watch the Combined Schools Concert. Students travelled on a bus to the Callaghan campus in Jesmond and enthusiastically cheered on the various talented students who performed. Our students have been introduced to various elements and wanted to use this excursion as an inspiring entry point to begin preforming. In the day we had guest stars from KuNarr such as Stephen Goode and Lochlain Leach stepping up to the stage to share their jokes. Students from KuNarr shared how inspiring the concert was to them, giving them the confidence to get up on stage and to potentially perform in the future. All students represented themselves and the school proudly and we hope to see a KuNarr band soon!

Watagan

Our last KuNarr reward excursion took us to the picturesque Lake Macquarie, where students enjoyed an action-packed day of fun and friendly competition. The first stop was Red Alert Laser Tag Warners Bay, where students challenged each other, as well as staff, in an exciting and strategic game. Next, the group headed to the Aquatic Challenger at Charlestown Swim Centre, where students raced each other in and on the water, showing off their swimming skills and having a great time in the pool. The challenges and races were filled with laughter, encouragement, and teamwork. A huge thank you to all the staff and students who made this excursion such a success. We can’t wait for the next one in 2025!

Woko

During Week 8, the KuNarr faculty warmly welcomed new students as part of their transition into our school community. Throughout the week, these students participated in a variety of activities designed to help them feel comfortable and confident in their new environment. These engaging experiences also provided opportunities for them to meet and connect with their new classmates and teachers. These students will form part of the two additional classes we are excited to introduce in 2025, marking an exciting chapter for our faculty.

Yengo - Swim and Survive 2024

What a great week of smashing goals and making achievements!

The KuNarr students took to the water in week 8 to take part in the Swim and Survive program at Cessnock pool. Our students were all outstanding in and out of the water with a range of skills achieved and conquered throughout the week. We then had the opportunity to attack the Splash water park at Nelson Bay on the Friday to celebrate the excellent effort during the swimming program. Apart from the intense heat, it was a successful day/week enjoyed by all who attended.

Thank you to the staff who supported the students through the week.

Halloween

Happy Halloween from the KuNarr Faculty.

We celebrated by serving spooky pies and creepy treats for KuNarr Café.

We then had a frighteningly fun time with activities including apple bobbing, pin the tail on the cat, cobweb basket tosses and witch’s hat races.

Coalfields Support Gala Day

KuNarr Support Faculty students were fortunate enough to be part of the Coalfields Support Gala Day on Friday. The students had a great time participating in a variety of sports throughout the day, and socialising with other local students. Their favourite activity of the day was definitely the NRL Development Program with NRLW Knights player Kayla Romaniuk!

Class Cooking

Whilst Mr Reid has been sitting in Mr Quigley’s big chair, Mr Moore has been taking the reins of cooking across the KuNarr faculty.

The students have been learning a whole variety of cooking skills, including barbequing.

Community Access

Some KuNarr students have had the opportunity to go on community access. Activities like these can have a positive impact on the students, where they can represent themselves and the school in the local community.

On this day, we took the bus to the shops to buy some groceries, went to the Bridges Hill Park to cook a BBQ and had a play on the equipment.

When Mr Moore saw how much fun the students had on this excursion, he couldn’t help but take the Yengo class.
