From dance to net and court, fitness, invasion and evasion games, we have been impressed with our student’s growth and development throughout the term. Success on the sporting field including in touch football, rugby league, netball and Regional athletics highlights the talented sports people we have at this amazing school.
I would like to take this opportunity to pass on our best wishes to all of Yr 12 in their upcoming HSC exams. It has been a pleasure teaching and knowing you for the past 6 years. STUDY HARD!
Year 7
In Year 7 PDHPE, students have been diving into the exciting world of Dance during practical lessons. They’ve been learning various dance styles, focusing on line dances, which help improve coordination, rhythm, and teamwork. Through choreographed performances, students are also gaining confidence and expressing their creativity.
In the theory lessons, students have been exploring the important topic of Health and Wellbeing. They’ve been discussing what it means to live a healthy life, covering areas such as physical fitness, mental health, nutrition, and the importance of maintaining balanced relationships. By understanding the key aspects of health and wellbeing, students are learning how to make positive lifestyle choices that will benefit them throughout their lives.
Year 8
This term, Year 8 students are focusing on a fitness unit that emphasizes the importance of daily physical activity for health and well-being. Teenagers are encouraged to engage in at least 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous exercise each day, limit recreational screen time to 2 hours, and aim for 8-10 hours of sleep nightly.
Students are also exploring the 11 components of fitness, such as power and reaction time, and learning how to improve these areas to boost sports performance and overall fitness
Year 9
During practical lessons this term students will be participating in various types of invasion games such as soccer and basketball and striking games such as cricket and T-Ball. They will be formally assessed on their: skill level, motivation and effort, and their teamwork within different activities throughout the term. During theory lessons students are completing a unit on Sexual Health. In this unit students will learn about safe sex practices, consent and ways to prevent unwanted pregnancy and STI’s. They will be required to complete a test in class at the end of term to test their knowledge and understanding.
9 and 10 PASS
In the Stage 5 PASS sports elective, students actively engaged with the excitement of the Paris Olympics. During practical lessons, they’ve taken on the challenge of participating in a variety of Olympic-inspired sports, working in small teams that represent different countries. This hands-on approach not only enhances their physical skills but also fosters teamwork, sportsmanship, and the Olympic spirit.
In theory lessons, students have delved deep into the world of the Paris Olympics. They’ve analysed the different sports featured at the Games, exploring what it takes to succeed at the highest level. Discussions have centered around the mindset of elite athletes, the factors contributing to success, and the importance of role models in sports. By studying these elements, students gain valuable insights into the dedication, resilience, and mental strength required to excel in both sports and life.
9 and 10 PASS Football Studies
In a thrilling display of athletic prowess, the PASS Football Studies class recently turned their focus to Rugby League Nines, culminating in a game between the Year 9 and Year 10 students.
Year 10 showcased a dominant power game in the middle, with standout performances from Nash Waddell, Blade Stevens, and Kobi Martin. Their aggressive plays and relentless drive created numerous challenges for the Year 9 defense, and it seemed they might run away with the match. However, Year 9's defenders, Zack Turner and Cooper Hayes, stood firm, delivering a series of crucial tackles that kept Year 10 from gaining an insurmountable lead.
The momentum shifted in the second half as Year 9 found their rhythm. Demonstrating excellent teamwork and strategic play, they managed to score back-to-back tries. Josh Bullen was instrumental in this comeback, expertly exploiting spaces behind the markers to propel his team forward.
The match was a fantastic learning experience for all involved, highlighting the importance of both offensive and defensive strategies in Rugby League Nines.
Year 10
This term, the Year 10 cohort has been actively engaged in a vital educational initiative: learning about road safety. As these students approach the age where they’ll begin driving or cycling independently, understanding the rules of the road, the importance of safe behavior, and the responsibilities of being a road user has never been more critical. In practical lessons they have stepped into the vibrant world of traditional dance, immersing themselves in the rhythms and movements of the Cha Cha, Samba, and the Waltz.
