It is with immense enthusiasm and honour that I step into the role of Head Teacher of Mathematics. I am excited to embark on this journey of academic excellence and student development alongside our vibrant and dedicated community.
In our mathematics department, we firmly believe that math transcends mere numbers and equations; it serves as a powerful tool for critical thinking, problem-solving, and logical reasoning. With innovative teaching methods, real-world applications, and personalised support, we aim to instil a genuine love for mathematics in our students and equip them with essential skills for success in an ever-evolving world.
A heartfelt thank you to the students who have begun the year prepared with scientific calculators. These tools are indispensable in our classrooms, facilitating efficiency, accuracy, and exploration of complex concepts.
They not only promote problem-solving skills but also prepare students for real-world applications where technology plays a crucial role in mathematical analysis and decision-making. Scientific calculators are available for purchase online through School Bytes or at the front office for $20.
To purchase a calculator via School Bytes for your student to collect, please follow these instructions:
Furthermore, the Mathematics faculty continues to integrate Non-Permanent Surfaces (NPS) into our classrooms. These writable surfaces, such as whiteboards or glass walls, empower students to collaboratively solve problems, visualize concepts, and articulate their mathematical reasoning dynamically.
This year, the Mount View High School Mathematics faculty is privileged to be supported by Steve Howard. Steve is a distinguished mathematician renowned for his contributions to Extension 2 Mathematics education in Australia. With over two decades of experience, Steve has significantly influenced advanced mathematical curriculum and pedagogy, authored textbooks, and served as a senior Extension 2 Mathematics HSC marker.
Through his innovative approaches to teaching and professional development opportunities, Steve has inspired countless students to excel in higher-level mathematics. Working remotely, Steve will co-teach Extension 2 Mathematics and provide invaluable support to our faculty.
I eagerly anticipate collaborating with each of you to uphold the esteemed standards of Mount View High School and to foster a culture of excellence in mathematics education.

We would like to acknowledge the traditional custodians of the lands. We acknowledge the 3 language groups in our AECG area. The Awabakal people, the Wonnarua people and the Darkinjung people. We show respect to our Elders past and present, along with the leaders of the future who are learning and carrying forward our traditions and culture both here at school and in the wider community. We extend that respect to the Aboriginal people present today, as well as the non-Aboriginal people here, as we continue working together on carrying our culture forward.
