Assistance Dogs in Schools

Izzy & Suzi

Mount View High School would like to welcome back Izzy this year to our school. Izzy will be working with our students on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday this year and can be found in the Teaching and Learning Faculty. Izzy is eight years old and has been supporting students in schools for the past seven years. The role of a Therapy Dog in a school setting is to provide emotional support, comfort and a positive presence to students, staff and the school community. She is specially trained to play an integral part in enhancing the teaching and learning environment by promoting well-being, reducing stress and fostering a sense of safety and connection within the school community. Welcome back Izzy!

Mount View High School is excited to introduce our newest canine worker, Suzi.

Our School Counsellor, Rebecca Moore, and Suzi have completed intensive training through Therapy Dogs NSW and have met the standards of Canine Assisted Therapy. Both Suzi and Rebecca have fully demonstrated effective skills in handling a canine in a safe and ethical manner, working safely with clients, with particular attention to Suzi’s welfare.

Suzi’s skills will be used to support students accessing our School Counsellor. She will be based in the school counsellor room every Friday moving forward.
