The Principal's View

Year 12 Graduation

Year 12 Graduated in style on Wednesday September 21st in a lovely ceremony at Mount View High School. Our organising committee led by Mrs Tracy Bailey, Mrs Chanelle Devine and Mrs Lily Amos ensured the attention to detail resulting in a smooth professional event. Mr Cameron Daniels was also instrumental coordinating sound, lighting and performance pieces that featured Mackenzie Hall and Briley Hunt.

Ms Ainslie Martin and Mrs Nicole Crowe were superb at ensuring the assembly had heart and was a fitting celebration of 13 years of schooling for our brilliant Year 12. Wonderful and teary speeches by our Year 12 captains and vice captains Jordan, Lachlan, Sam and Noone were responded to in style and class by Mrs Martin who effectively summed up our students' time at Mount View. A surprise Year 12 mural was donated by the students that will be placed on the MPC wall facing the senior area. A brilliant start to a new tradition.

I would like to wish Year 12 all the best as they prepare for their exams that commence in just over two weeks, held this year at East Cessnock Bowling Club.

2023 Hoodie jumper option

The results are in for the hooded jumper with over 500 survey results across staff, students and parents.. The senior leaders will start working with Lowes and Flannagans around the preferred style - Grey with no arm text. This jumper option will be available ready for the start of 2023. The MVHS grey hooded jumper will complement the existing soft shell jacket and rugby jumper and complete our new uniform jumper options. Students will need to wear one of these jumper options when we start in 2023.

Merit System

Our school captains have developed a short video to promote the revamped Merit System. A merit is the base student award at MVHS. When a student collects five merits from one subject area they can trade them in for a commendation. Any five commendations then automatically earn students a Principal Award which is presented twice annually at the Principal Assemblies.

The new addition to the merit system allow students to register their merit awards weekly to go into a draw for a $10 canteen voucher. One student from each year group is drawn out each week to recognise and highlight our students who are respectful, safe and engaged.

Outdoor gym opening

Lyndal Burke along with our captains, Caylan Law, Sienna Newsome, Briley Hunt and Abbi Moore, officially opened our new Outdoor Gym on Friday in a wonderful and thoughtful opening ceremony.

Lyndal acknowledged The Community Building Partnerships Grant and our local MP Mr Clayton Barr who supported our application; The MVHS community, Shane Hookway and Nicole Haley for further support, guidance and assistance; Brad Walker for seeking suppliers and overseeing the extensive project; Greg Owens from the Australian Playgrounds; and previous school leaders, Sam Younger, Takoda Allen, Chelsea Webb and Lilly Stace for initially suggesting the playground improvement of the Outdoor Gym. A short video celebrating the opening can be viewed here.

We look forward to the many years of utilising the equipment and furthering our student success.
