FILM BY Workshop

On the 8th of August selected students from Cessnock High School and Mount View High School were given the opportunity to participate in a one-day filmmaking workshop. The workshop was presented by Karen Beutler and Glen Carter from FILM BY a NSW Public School Film Communities initiative, with the aim of providing students with the knowledge to produce short film for the upcoming FILM BY the VINES festival in the Hunter later in the year.

The workshop introduced students to the concept and styles of Short Film. Students viewed short films from other schools around NSW and were guided step by step through the elements of what makes a successful film. During the day they learnt about many aspects of filmmaking and the possibilities available to them using just their phone, iPad or other similar device.  As the day progressed, students were given time to collaborate and implement the skills and techniques gained on the day by shooting the start of a short film of their own.

The event was made possible through the support of Cessnock Library.

Students were guided through animation/Manga tips and tricks and were able to create two very distinctive characters within a short time frame. A great time was had by all, including Deputy Crowe who couldn't resist an afternoon in the Leap centre sketching away…

CAPA Grad Night

HSC students were on show in a big way during CAPA Grad Night, held on August 30. The evening featured works and performances by Year 12 Visual Art, Music and Dance students, a culmination of their efforts throughout 2021-22.

The evening started with the visual art exhibition, held in the Art Block Gallery. It showcased works by HSC and Life Skill students. Paintings, sculptures, charcoal drawings, lino prints and interactive works were enjoyed by parents and friends. Everyone then moved to the CAPA Lawn to experience the HSC Dance performance and Aboriginal Dancers.

The LEAP Centre was then the location for the HSC Music performances. Instruments superbly demonstrated were electric guitar, piano and acoustic guitar, accompanied by CAPA staff on drums, keyboard, bass and vocals.

The evening was a success with students sharing an outstanding range of skills with the people who have supported them throughout their HSC journey.
