Year 12 Textiles and Design Major Projects

Kimberley Arnott

Focus area: Furnishings

My textile major project is a quilt. I have been inspired by the Australian landscape and my family. The reason I wanted to make a quilt is because I wanted to do something that was practical and useful as well as a keep sake I could give to my own children one day. My quilt is a representation of my family tree and a personal journey about me.

Madeline Davis

Focus area: Costume

For my major work I chose to do a design that was inspired by the glamorous costumes of different movies and theatrical performances. There was so many influences that dictated the shape, decoration and colour of the gown.

The material was naturally dyed using a variation of cabbage dying, the leaf decoration was cut using the school resource of the laser cutter and Angelina fibres were used to create shine and depth. The gown was made to represent the feminine and elegant aesthetic of royalty. The sweetheart bodice and tulle bell shaped skirt was chosen to accentuate the shape of the wearer.

Beatrice Nelson

Focus area: Furnishings

My major work project was inspired by memories and the ocean, emphasised by a decorative mermaid as the focal point. To create depth, the mermaid is made up of different pieces, which feature different aesthetic and innovative techniques. I made my own felt for the hair and the bottom of the tail, which had added beading stitched into it for another aesthetic component.

For the body of the tail, I hand stitched different pieces of lace and doilies that were recycled from family together, and some of these doilies had been naturally dyed. Other techniques such as fabric painting, hand embroidery, patchwork, marbling, and many more were also featured into the quilt.

Ella Rayward
