Year 7 Adviser

Semester 1 is done and what a semester it was. Year 7 have gone from strength to strength and have shown their capacity to be natural leaders within all aspects of high school life. They have demonstrated resilience, and I am proud of every goal they have achieved in the past 2 terms.

This term students participated in their first Cultural Immersion Day where they learnt about our local indigenous cultures; the Awabakal, the Wonnarua and the Darkinjung people. Throughout the day, they participated in a range of creative and critical thinking activities with which they were all positively engaged. Days like these would not be possible without the wonderful Aboriginal Education team. On behalf of Year 7, I would like to thank the team for broadening their world that little bit more with their efforts.

This term has also seen a hotly contested challenge being held in Thursday sport. Students have been divided into groups and challenged weekly to show their prowess and to bring their best to the field. Along with this, we have had much success on and off the field. Several students make it to Zone for athletics and cross country, meanwhile, the under 13s boys’ rugby league team made it to the final and played at McDonald Jones Stadium. Year 7 just keep getting better... where will Term 3 take us?

Students have continued to develop their skills and abilities within the classroom. From learning about Japanese culture within their Language classroom to engaging with the modern artists of our time in Art, Year 7 have been challenged to try out new techniques and consider different ways to express the knowledge that they have learnt.

Aditionally, there have been a range of wellbeing and community opportunities on offer this term. From Cooker’s Group to Green Growers, Year 7 have been encouraged to not only look outside of themselves but have also been inspired to focus on learning about what others face while building their own resilience.

Congratulations to Sam Caban, Ellie Codd, Boston Morton and Jade Caban on being elected to the Year 7 leadership team for 2024/25.

I hope that you all have a relaxing holiday period and here’s to an even more exciting and joyous semester to come for Year 7.
