The Principal's View

Policy update – Non-compulsory excursions - student eligibility requirements

Mount View High School will be implementing a new policy from the start of Term 3, aimed at enhancing the overall educational experience and accountability of our students. The policy published on the MVHS website: https://mountview-h.schools.ns... has been informed by community, staff and student feedback.

Starting from Monday, June 3, we will begin collecting data on students' uniform compliance, attendance, and behaviour. The ongoing data collection will be instrumental in determining eligibility for non-compulsory excursions starting Term 3. Our goal is to ensure that students who represent our school on these excursions uphold the high standards we expect in all areas.

Key Points of the New Policy:

1.    Uniform Compliance: Students must consistently wear the full school uniform according to our uniform policy. To be eligible for non-compulsory excursions, students should have no more than four uniform infringements in the five weeks leading up to the excursion. All students must be in full school uniform on the day of an excursion.

2.    Attendance: Students must maintain a minimum attendance rate of 85%, excluding explained absences supported by medical certificates. Partial absences including unjustified lateness or truancy from class will be used in determining a students overall attendance rate.

3.    Behaviour: Students are expected to exhibit behaviour that aligns with the Department of Education Behaviour Code. Specifically, students must demonstrate safe, engaged, and respectful behaviour. Students with more than two negative behaviour referrals or those who have been suspended or received a formal caution in the five weeks prior to an excursion may not be eligible to participate.

We believe that these measures will support our students in developing responsibility and pride in their school representation. Students have been informed about these changes and understand that the data collected from June 3 will be used to make decisions regarding their eligibility for non-compulsory excursions from Term 3 onwards.

We appreciate your support in reinforcing these expectations at home. Should you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact the school.

Semester one parent teacher interviews

As we head toward the end of Semester one, I would like to emphasise the importance of attending our upcoming Parent-Teacher Afternoon on Tuesday, July 2. This event is specifically for parents of students in Years 7, 8, 9, 10, as well as ‘Feed Forward’ interviews for Year 11.

The Parent-Teacher Afternoon provides a valuable opportunity for you to engage with your child’s teachers and discuss their progress and achievements. These conversations will be informed by the Semester 1 reports that your child will receive during their Principal assemblies on Friday 28 June (Years 7 & 8) and Monday July 1 (Years 9 & 10). This is a pivotal time to gain insights into your child's academic performance, address any concerns, and work collaboratively with teachers to support your child's educational journey.

Event Details: Parent Teacher Afternoon

Date: Tuesday, July 2

Time: 3:10 to 6pm

Location: MVHS C block class rooms

How to Book: Sentral Parent Portal or by contacting the school.

Bookings for the Parent-Teacher Afternoon can be made through the Sentral Parent Portal from Monday June 24. We encourage you to schedule appointments with your child’s teachers as soon as they open to ensure you have the opportunity to meet with all relevant staff members. We look forward to seeing you there and working together to support your child's learning and development.

Thank you for your continued partnership and support.
