Leo Clubs are a sponsored affiliation of Lions Club International, that encourage young men and women to serve others in their community and around the world.
Mount View Leo Club is affiliated with Cessnock Lions Club and we have Ian Anderson (former principal of MVHS), Peter Conroy (former Deputy Principal of MVHS) and Grahame Chamberlain (former HT of MVHS) as our Club supervisors.
Miss Bell is the teacher supervisor.
LEO stands for:
Leadership - as members acquire skills as project organisers and motivators of their peers
Experience - as they discover how teamwork and cooperation can bring about change in their community and the world
Opportunity - as they develop positive character traits and receive recognition for their contributions
The Mount View LEO club is also associated with Lion’s Youth of the Year. This year we had Lucy Beckett and Jessica Sweetman compete against Cessnock High School and St Phillips Christian College for the Lion’s Youth of the Year. The competition involves an interview, two impromptu questions and a five-minute prepared speech. Both students spoke very well and were commended on their performance in the competition. Lucy won the Public Speaking award but neither student took out the overall prize so will not proceed to the next level. Congratulations on stepping up and representing the school in this prestigious competition.
At the end of last year the LEO club participated in a Bunnings BBQ to raise $1036 to go towards charity. The LEO club voted to donate $500 to Ronald McDonald house in Newcastle. This is a worthwhile charity that they regularly donate to at Christmas which is greatly appreciated every year. The LEO club also put funds together to make up nine backpacks filled with school supplies to donate to students at Mount View High School.
Future enterprises:
- During term 3 the LEO club will be holding a trivia night to raise funds for Youth Off the Streets
- Ella Hunt and Tameika Stainton will be representing the Mount View LEO Club at the State LEO conference in the Blue Mountains.
