Exciting New Kitchen Enhances Culinary Experience for Students

We are thrilled to have had our new kitchen completed during the last school holiday break. This facility will provide a myriad of opportunities for students from Years 7 to 12 to enhance their culinary skills and gain experience with industry standard equipment.

One of the features of this modern kitchen is the stainless steel bench tops that adorn the workspace. Not only do they provide a sleek and professional look, but they also are a highly functional and hygienic surface on which students can work. The durable nature of stainless steel ensures that the kitchen will withstand many years of rigorous use.

An exciting aspect of this new addition is the industry standard equipment available to students, notably the combi oven. A combi oven combines the functionality of a convection oven and a steam oven, allowing for a variety of cooking techniques to be executed with ease. This will enable students to experiment with different cooking methods used in professional kitchens. This offers students a unique opportunity to gain practical experience and familiarise themselves with equipment that they may encounter in their future career paths.

In addition to the improved equipment, this new kitchen will also facilitate collaborative activities and foster an environment of creativity. The spacious layout allows multiple students to work side by side, encouraging teamwork, communication, and sharing of ideas.

We extend our sincere gratitude to everyone involved in the planning and construction of our new kitchen. Their dedication and hard work have transformed our facilities into a high quality teaching space, enriching the learning experiences of our students.

We encourage all students to make the most of this facility and take advantage of the opportunities it presents.

VET Hospitality

At the end of Term 2, Miss Bendall and the HSC Hospitality students ventured out to the vineyards to experience some of the best service and food that the local industry has to offer. These students became acquainted with fine dining whilst enjoying a 3-course meal at Restaurant Cuvee, Peterson House. This experience allowed students to apply classroom learning with real world service.  This wonderful opportunity had students identifying quality customer service, ambiance, menu styles and standard beverage presentation for a range of non-alcoholic beverages.

During the lunch, students were exposed to a range of cooking techniques and styles of food presentation. The Al a Carte style of service provided them with examples which can be applied when discussing food and beverage service in preparation for revision for their trial and HSC. Whilst trying the various dishes, students discussed the range of flavours and ingredients utilised to create the many elements of each dish.

Upon completion of the dining experience, the group took a tour of the facilities. Firstly, they looked at the kitchen set up and equipment used in the lunch service. Students identified the commercial equipment utilised to prepare and serve food whilst also looking at the large scale dishwasher required to keep the crockery and cutlery clean. Secondly, students were shown a commercial walk in fridge/freezer where a range of mis en place for breakfast and lunch service was stored. This was incredibly valuable for the students to see what the industry standard is in regard to food safety and hygiene. The final component of the tour was to see the function kitchen along a wedding set up. Whilst we have many great resources within the school, these real-world examples provided an extension. Thank you to the students who represented Mount View High School so well and the staff a Peterson House.
