Science and Agriculture

Year 7 and 8 Science

This term, Year 7 began their investigation into ecology where they researched how a range of animals and plants exist in an environment and interact with each other. Students have also performed experiments to model the water cycle in a closed system and engaged in field studies to identify a range of variations in the leaves of plants to understand how their characteristics are beneficial in their survival.

Year 8 students entered into Term 4 smashing through their Science examinations and Valid 8 tests. Upcoming investigations over the term will see students discover a wide range of resources utilised by Australia and their impacts on the environment and society.

Year 9 and 10 Agriculture

The school agriculture farm was buzzing with activity while a new Agricultural Technology resource focused on bringing native bees into schools was officially launched. A collaboration between the school, our Regional Industry Education Partnerships team, the Rural Learning Exchange and Bee Innovative has allowed Year 10 agriculture to get up close and personal with native bees during lessons. Our Year 10 class has been trialing learning resources for the project which will now be made available for all NSW schools to utilise and bring bees into their schools as well. The launch saw Kate Lyall, our industry partner from Bee Innovative, demonstrate hive splitting, showcase her innovative new technology called the BeeDar and teach students about native bees and their uses in agricultural production.

Year 9 and 10 Science

Year 9 students have commenced their investigation into the science of communication, exploring the properties of light and sound waves and how society utilises these characteristics to our benefit. Revision was also a focus in preparation for their examination in Week 4.

Year 10 students have successfully completed their Depth Study assessment task with presentations underway. This assessment saw students put their scientific skills to work in planning, conducting and analysing an experiment of their choice and communicating their findings to their peers. This task also serves as valuable evidence for Project 10 in Week 6.
