The Principal's View

It is with great pleasure that I can announce my substantive appointment as Principal at Mount View High School (pending appeal).

Following a rigorous selection process, Martin Rosser, Director Educational Leadership Cessnock Network let me know of my success in merit selection. Having led Mount View High School as the Principal for the last three years and having been in a leadership role at MVHS for seven years I am excited to have the opportunity to continue to develop an educational setting that delivers ‘High Expectations and Opportunities For All To Thrive’.

Our three strategic directions aim to develop, improve and extend our student's capabilities to achieve their best in all stages of learning through the implementation of Student Growth and Attainment initiatives (Strategic Direction 1), to ensure students grow in their learning through explicit, consistent and research-informed teaching practices using Learning Culture (Strategic Direction 2), and to improve Wellbeing and Engagement (Strategic Direction 3) by implementing research and evidenced based strategies in a planned approach.

Term 1 Take on the Teacher initiative
Throughout Term 1 we have run the ‘Take on the Teacher’ wellbeing program aiming to provide increased opportunity to Get Active and Connect for both students and staff. Each week in Term 1 students nominated a team in the sport of that week. Throughout the week they played each other to determine a winning student team. That team then had the right to take on the teachers during a Friday Grand Final match. In Term 1 the scores are level:

Students 3 - Teachers 3

Round 1 - Volleyball - Students were victorious…. Didn’t see that coming

Round 2 - Basketball - Teachers struck back in a close match.

Round 3 - Table Tennis - Teachers pinged and the students ponged.

Round 4 - Netball - Our star import Sharon Strzelecki pulled a hammy and the kids just pipped us in the dying minutes…

Round 5 - Soccer - Mr Boticki tore his achilles and the VAR went down meaning the kids most likely cheated but they registered the win

Round 6 - Badminton - Mr Hookway and Miss Christopher teamed up to level the ledger.

Congratulations Brad Walker. Brad was successful in being awarded an Executive Director - SASS and Community Award for 2022. The award celebrates Brad's outstanding contribution in school communities across Regional North Performance Directorate. Brad was one of only three staff selected for recognition across the Cessnock Network of Public Schools. Mount View High School is extremely proud and incredibly grateful for Brad's significant contribution to our school and to student outcomes.

ANZAC Day

I would like to extend an invitation to our students to participate in the 2022 ANZAC day march. Mount View High School will be meeting at the Vincent Street Kitchen on Monday April 25 at 10.45. Students must be in full school uniform to march. The march gets underway from 11.15am and will move down Vincent and Cooper Streets to the Cenotaph where a service of Commemoration will take place at the Cenotaph.
