Futures Centre

Congratulations to Darcy Bullen and Katie Briggs who have been successful in gaining School Based Traineeships with Hunter New England Health in 2022.  These students will embark on this journey over the next two years where they will work at Cessnock Hospital one day per week as well as completing their TAFE and HSC requirements.

One of the biggest requests from students is assistance with applying for apprenticeships. Applying for and gaining an apprenticeship can be challenging and time consuming. Applicants need to be enthusiastic and proactive with the application process. Generally the students who successfully gain apprenticeships activity engage with support services on offer from the Futures Team and have proactive parental support. The Futures Team advertises apprenticeship opportunities on almost a daily basis both on Facebook and in our Google Classroom (students can come to the Futures Centre for the code). We encourage all students interested in gaining an apprenticeship to look closely at our job posts and seek our assistance with resumes and cover letters. Other support services that the Futures team can offer to students wanting to apply for apprenticeships include: providing school reports, organising work experience, White Card Training and interview preparation.

The Futures team would like to congratulate the following students who have actively sought our assistance during 2021 and have been successful in gaining an apprenticeship.

Year 12 - University Success

The Schools Recommendation Scheme (SRS) gives Australian Year 12 students who have applied for undergraduate admission through UAC an opportunity to be assessed on criteria other than, or in addition to, the ATAR. Institutions use a wide range of selection criteria, including school recommendations and senior secondary studies. Institutions have their own policies on determining SRS eligibility and making offers. Institutions can, for example, make early offers based on: − SRS criteria only − SRS criteria and ATAR (or equivalent) − SRS and equity criteria (e.g. an Educational Access Scheme assessment).

First and second round SRS offers were released on Friday 12th November and Thursday 25th November. In 2021, 46 HSC students applied for university and the schools recommendation scheme concurrently.  Mount View High School is pleased to announce that 26 of the 46 students received an unconditional offer to study at university within the two offer rounds to date.  17 students were lucky enough to gain an unconditional for their first course preference, 3 students received an offer for their 2nd preference and or 3rd preference and 2 students received an offer for their 4th course preference. 1 student was lucky enough to receive an offer in both rounds.

24 of the offers were for The University of Newcastle, 1 for the University of New England and 1 for Charles Sturt University.

Congratulations to the following students for receiving an unconditional offer through the SRS program:

It is worth noting that other students have received conditional offers, meaning they still need to meet the ATAR requirements for their course. UAC will not release information about conditional offers until a confirmed offer has been made. Most universities also have their own direct entry schemes. Again the school is not officially notified of these offers. Mount View High School would like to acknowledge these students and pass on our congratulations.

The Futures Centre Team would like to wish everyone a very happy and safe holidays.  We look forward to working with many students in 2022.
