The Principal's View

Year 12 wrap up.

Thank you to the Year 12 parents who responded to the survey on the Graduation Assembly.

A summary of the questions is presented right, and will be used to inform future Graduation ceremonies. This is followed by a few examples of some of the parent comments that were left.

Since then Year 12 have engaged in the first COVID safe HSC, that last week wrapped up with the Drama examination. Year 12 were brilliant in their capacity to adjust to throughout the 2020 year and continued throughout the HSC examination period.

With the HSC exams finally complete Year 12 were blessed with a near perfect evening with which to hold their formal. This year we moved to 'The Vintage' and it did not disappoint. The tables were set up under the stars, allowing all of Year 12 and staff to be seated together and for a large area to be allocated as the dance floor allowing all students to really let their hair down throughout the night.

I was devastated when we were advised that parents couldn't attend the ceremony in person. As this has been a crazy year for all, I completely understood that safety comes first. I would however like to thank the school for providing the live streaming option by such a professional production team. The coverage was of such high quality you felt like you were in the room with the students, and with a better up close view. Another great feature is the year 12 students can watch it over & relive the moment. Congratulations to everyone involved.

All the kids know how much their parents love them but to hear a small insight and thoughts from one of their teachers. Wishing them all the best was special and would be a great addition every year!

This live streaming was an excellent Idea and executed perfectly. Hope it's the start of a long tradition at MVHS.

Staffing update

Late in Term 3 I released five positions to staffing with a further position released last week. Whilst MVHS has some incredible temporary teachers, the certainty of permanent staff greatly improves stability and consistentcy in teaching and learning. I am pleased to announce that 3 of the positions have since been filled with the remaining three to be sorted in the coming weeks.

  1. The Mathematics position was centrally filled with Chloe Loxley the new appointment. Chloe is a targeted graduate and will join us from the start of 2021.
  2. A Learning and Support Teacher is in process with an expectation of being filled ready for the start of 2021.
  3. A Music position was advertised and filled last week. One of longest serving temporary staff members Mr Cameron Daniels was succesful at interview and has accepted the position to start in 2021 pending the two week appeal period.
  4. A Science position has been centrally filled with Mr Blake Gruber the new appointment. Blake is a targeted grad and has joined us from the start of Week 5.
  5. A HSIE position has been advertised with an expectation of being filled ready for the start of 2021.
  6. Lastly we have commenced the filling of a TAS Industrial Arts position. Everything is scheduled to ensure that we will have a permanent staff member ready for 2021.

Presentation assembly updates

Last week a further relaxing of the rules was permitted for schools to implement.

Of note were relaxing of the rules around excursions, transition including Year 7 orientation and end of year events such as presentation assemblies.

Typically the end of year presentation assembly is our biggest community event as students are recognised for academic excellence across Year 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11. The new rules require schools to comply with the 4 square metre rule for all people participating. Schools will need to consider the total number of people including staff, students, parents & carers or visitors who are able to be accommodated under the 4 square metre rule. Regrettably we will be unable to meet these requirements due to the large number of student award recipients even when we attempted to run individual year based assemblies with parents.

Student only presentation assemblies have been scheduled as follows:

  • Year 10 - Monday December 14, 9am to 10.30am
  • Year 9 - Monday December 14, 11.30am to 1.00pm
  • Year 8 - Tuesday December 15, 9am to 10.30am
  • Year 7 - Tuesday December 15, 11.30am to 1.00pm
Year 11 TBA.
