KuNarr Faculty (Support)

Head Teacher Report

Friday 22nd March saw KuNarr compete in a Boccia & Table Tennis Tournament with our closest rivals, the Seek Faculty students from Cessnock High. We had the home ground advantage and showed great skills & sportsmanship.

It was a wonderful day engaging with fellow students & staff from the local area, and we are looking forward to the next round!

Awaba Classroom

Awaba and Watagan classes have been relishing in each opportunity to express themselves in Visual Arts lessons this term, channeling their inner Jackson Pollock, Andy Warhol and Vincent Van Gogh.

Using various mediums of line and colour, students have been studying and recreating famous artworks, such as Starry Night.

Mambo Classroom

The overall focus for this class is to offer students a Life Skills pattern of study that prepare them for life after school and provide post school opportunities. This term during classes students have engaged in:

  • English: preparing a CV and writing a cover letter for their dream job

  • Business and Economics: earning an income; saving, spending and investing
  • Community and Family Studies: personal wellbeing, needs and wants, goal setting, and maintaining positive relationships
  • Mathematics: the value of money; income tax, benefits and deductions
  • Food Technology: safety in the kitchen; the nature of food and nutrition; menu planning

The key messages for students include:

  • Importance of first impressions to an employer

  • Communication and attitude in the workplace
  • Strategies for developing a personal budget
  • Maintaining personal wellbeing and work-life balance
  • Reading a payslip, paying taxes and submitting a tax return
  • Preparing well balanced meals within a budget

Olney Classroom

Olney has been exploring their interests in art and food technology! We have focused on the elements of art, looking at Vincent van Gogh, Keith Haring and practical block building to explore line shape and colour. Students have also been excelling in food technology with reports of a BBQ king and a Milkshake connoisseur.

Watagan Classroom

Watagan have been enjoying the faculty deck for outside teaching and learning fun this term.  Our dedicated students have been demonstrating their addition, subtraction, and multiplication skills, by utilising concrete materials and our life-size number line to complete mathematical sums.

Woko Classroom

On Thursday 14th of March, KuNarr students were given the opportunity to complete their white cards. We would like to thank HPOTS for providing the opportunity for our students and in particular trainer Jessie. A white card (or general construction induction card) is required for workers who want to carry out construction work.

A big thank you to Ms Knipe & Mrs Ambrum for helping to organise HPOTS and assisting on the day.

Yengo Classroom

Yengo students have made some great links with their learning this term. The class of year 8 and 9 boys has thoroughly enjoyed studying the topics of Vikings, Food Technology and Botany. By using interactive technologies and practical activities, all students have immersed themselves into the life of a Viking, and how to use botany to create a solid understanding of the importance of economic productivity and the ideal growing techniques that helps farmers.
