Student Leadership

HPGE Focus – Social-Emotional Domain (with sub-focus on Intellectual and Creative Domains)

This program primarily supports the development of social-emotional potential by building students’ confidence, self-management, and ability to work collaboratively with others. Leadership experiences help students develop empathy, resilience, and a strong sense of personal responsibility. The program also nurtures intellectual abilities through problem solving, decision making, and goal setting, while encouraging creative thinking through innovative approaches to school initiatives and community engagement.

Entry to Leadership Opportunities

Leadership roles are available to students through an application or election process, depending on the position. Each year group is represented by two male and two female student leaders, elected by their peers during the school-wide student leadership elections held at the end of Term 2. Elected leaders are formally inducted at the beginning of Term 3. Students in Year 11 moving into Year 12 are elected in a gender-neutral process into two School Captains and two Vice-Captains positions. Other leadership pathways include the Junior AECG, which supports Aboriginal student voice and cultural leadership, and the LEOs program, which focuses on service, teamwork, and community engagement. Students in all roles are supported to represent their peers and actively contribute to school life.

Program Aim and Intent

The leadership program aims to grow confident, creative, and community-minded leaders. Students develop skills in communication, organisation, teamwork, and self-reflection through their involvement in school initiatives. Whether leading events, advocating for peers, or engaging in civic partnerships, students are supported to set personal leadership goals and build their capabilities over time. These experiences help prepare them for future roles in school, community, and professional settings.
